MISSION STATEMENT
Save Our Students - Safety Over Sorry (SOS²) is an East County & Rancho San Diego community effort dedicated to preventing the development of a high school at the intersection of Chase Avenue and Jamacha Road.
While we do not question the quality of the charter school itself, we believe this is an inappropriate site for any school and that a development of this scope will create significant and negative impacts on traffic and safety which will result in imminent and unmitigable dangers to our community and its families for generations to come. It is for these and other reasons that we are opposed to any school being built at the intersection of Chase Avenue and Jamacha Road.
Together with our attorney and experts we have reviewed the proposed project application and all the project applicant's supporting documentation as well as the County's documentation including the:
-
Initial Study
-
County Staff Report
-
Proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration
-
Government agency comments
-
Public comments
-
Communications between the project proponent (Literacy First Charter Schools, Inc.) and County Staff
-
Other relevant documents and communications
Based on this review, we are of the opinion that the issuance of a major use permit for the building of a high school at the intersection of Chase Avenue and Jamacha ,Road which property is currently zoned for rural residential use, violates the California Environment Quality Act (CEQA) and thus such a permit cannot be lawfully issued.
